I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA., educated in public schools and attended Sacramento City College and CSU Sacramento. Around 4th grade, I was assigned a science project – question and answer machine in a box- and I was hooked on electronics. All through school, I worked on and helped others with electronic devices and that led to my vocation as a professional audio-visual sales engineer.
Church was a big part of our lives. The church my mother and father joined when they came to Sacramento around 1960 is Kyles Temple A.M.E. Zion. I lived in South Sacramento, and went to church in Oak Park – so I identify both as home. My parents are dedicated lay leaders and we traveled all over Northern California regularly. I came to Christ at a conference in San Francisco when I was around 12 years old.
My wife, Janet, and I met at a church convention in the mid 80’s, and have been married for 26 years. We are blessed with two children: Courtney and Nathan.
We came to Soaring Oaks 18 months ago looking for a community of believers that showed the love of Christ in their worship, their fellowship and their outreach. We are glad to call SOPC our church home.
I was born, raised and educated in Sacramento, California. In 1975, after hearing the Gospel for the first time, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
In October 1988 I married the lovely and talented Sheila Turner-Carr. We have one daughter, Kristen and a granddaughter, Noa.
Sheila and I discovered Soaring Oaks Presbyterian Church (SOPC) through an invitation by Debbie Mininfield in the fall of 1996 and began regularly attending. After prayerful consideration, we decided to make SOPC our permanent church home.
It is here that we began to understand the fullness of the Gospel; our utter dependence on God’s mercy and grace, the doctrines of grace and – perhaps most importantly – the ABSOLUTE value of the word of God (as living and active and all-consuming in our lives) and the importance of studying scripture as the very life and breath of God!
I am privileged to serve as the church Activities Coordinator and as a Sunday school teacher. Also, as many of you know, I have been involved with coaching high school track and field in the community for 30+ years and currently am at Sheldon High School. Go Huskies!
I was born and raised in Sacramento, California, and grew up in the church. I’m not able to say exactly when I came to a saving faith in Christ, but it was around four years ago when I began to have a growing desire to serve the Lord that I joined the church. My parents, Greg and Pam, who are also members of the congregation, are the ones who introduced me to SOPC. I am thankful to SOPC because it has helped me grow in deeper knowledge of the truth and make Christian friends.
During my free time I enjoy going to the movies, trying different restaurants, and spending time with my friends.
I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico in 1966, and lived there until 1973 when we migrated to Dixon, California. My mother regularly took my brothers and sisters to a Catholic church, but I had many questions about the rituals and events that occurred during service. Eventually, I left the church and went to college where I studied history of religions.
In college, I met Taryn and had many discussions about the Christ. Sometime in the summer of 1988 I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Taryn and I were married in 1990 and we will be celebrating our 25 year wedding anniversary in May. We have 2 children who we have raised in the church and hope and pray will continue to walk with the Lord.
I have worked for the Department of Corrections for the last 15 years and 10 months. We became members of SOPC over 16 years ago. As a family, we enjoy spending family time sitting on the couch doing homework, reading, watching T.V., and just being together.
I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA and came to faith in Christ at the age of 24. I have a beautiful wife named Felice and we have been married for almost a year and a half.
I came to SOPC back in 2006 when two Brothers in Christ who were witnessing to me told me to check out the church for their Bible Study every Wednesday night. The study would convict me hard and my relationship with God started to grow from there. Soon, I started to attend Service regularly every Sunday and the rest is pretty much history.
Things that I'm thankful for: 1.) God blessing me with Felice as my wife and 2.) All the things I don't deserve yet he still provides in my everyday life. (A loving family, roof over my head, food on the table, a stable job, etc.). I like to play basketball when I have the chance, and I am a big fan of the 3 greatest teams ever in sports history...the Sacramento Kings, the San Francisco Giants, and the San Francisco 49ers...well, in my eyes and my opinion.
I was born in Montgomery, Alabama and am an “Air Force brat.” I went into the Air Force and spent five years serving the military. While in the Air Force I became an alcoholic, and because my alcoholism I was subsequently kicked out of the military. While I was still drinking I came to faith on March 6, 1997, upon declaring my faith in Christ the desire to drink was removed.
My mother and I moved to Sacramento in August 2011, my mother and I went to several churches within the Sacramento area one of which was SOPC. On a trip to Redding, California visiting my sister and her family my mother said that we had to start going back to church because there was something missing, not only in my life but in hers. I knew that I wanted to go to a PCA church and that I would like to try SOPC again. To my surprise Pastor Lance Lewis was at the pulpit, he was one of the pastors that my old church in Newtown, Pennsylvania supported as a missionary. I am happy that I have found a church that preaches and carries the true Word of Christ.
I am currently attending Ashford University full-time in order to receive my bachelor’s degree in environmental studies.
