Church Elders

Teaching Elder

Pastor Lance Lewis

Rev. Lance Lewis was born and raised in West Philadelphia. He's been married to his wonderful wife Sharon for over twenty-eight years and has been blessed with two children, Sarah and Charles. Pastor Lance was educated at Temple University and the Chesapeake Theological Training Center. He has served as the co-pastor of Christ Redemption Fellowship and for ten years served as the church planting pastor of Christ Liberation Fellowship, a congregation started with his family along several others in 2001. He is currently the pastor of Soaring Oaks Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Elk Grove CA. Pastor Lewis has a desire to see the living God revive His church to the extent that a biblically based and Christ-centered multi-ethnic church planting movement spreads accross our suburban and metro areas.

Pastor Lance lives in Elk GRove CA with his wife Sharon and has contributed to three books, Glory Road: The Journeys of 10 African-Americans into Reformed Theology, Keep Your Head Up: America's New Black Christian Leaders, Social Consciousness and the Cosby Conversation both published by Crossway Books and Aliens in the Promised Land: Why Minority Leadership is Overlooked in White Christian Churches and Institutions published by Presbyterian and Reformed Publishing. His forthcoming book is How To Walk With God: A Guide to Vital Spiritual Health published by GGIS Publishing.

Linsay Brooks

I was born in Burlington, Iowa, within sight of the mighty Mississippi River as the second youngest of nine children. My father used to pour over the Bible day and night, reading it with us before bed and teaching us to pray. After straying from the faith until my mid-20s, I returned to the faith of my father, proving the proverb true, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." (Prov. 22:6)

God has been gracious to grant me a wonderful wife, Jamiella, and 4 children, Tinisha (25), Gabrielle (14), Amaris (3), and Ezra (3mos.).

After a diligent, year-long search for a faithful, Reformed and Presbyterian body of believers to join after moving to Davis, CA to further Jamiella's education, we were directed in 2011 to SOPC by a friend and Elder in our former church, Communion Presbyterian of Irvine (ARP), who had attended SOPC years prior. We were so thankful to find such a welcoming, faithful and God-honoring church that seemed so truly to embody the vision of heavenly worship of people from every tongue, tribe and nation.

I am a Staff Apologist and Radio Host with Apologetics.com, challenging believers to think, and thinkers to believe. I teach driving, and am a professional musician, making music for film and TV. Jamiella and I are foodies and enjoy reading, movies and other nerdy pursuits.

Tim Curtis

I was born in Torrance, California and was raised in the church from infancy.   I grew up attending St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Lomita, CA, and it was there as a teenager that I was saved through faith in Christ.  My wife Debbie and I have been married for 26 years and we have two children, Emily and Andrew.  I was     ordained as an elder in 1989, and have served on the session in two congregations: St. Mark’s in Lomita, and Peace Presbyterian Church in Elk Grove, as well as     serving as the Clerk of Session.

I came to Soaring Oaks through the urging of Mike and Erin Pettengill in 2007/2008.  My family and I have been greatly blessed by the Christ centered   Scripture based teaching at Soaring Oaks.

I have been studying to go into ministry for a number of years now, attaining a B.S. in theology and Christian Leadership from William Jessup University, and I am currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity at City Seminary of Sacramento, and work as a chaplain for Advanced Hospice.

I enjoy watching old movies with my daughter, as well as cooking new dishes.

Greg Edwards

I was born in Oxnard, California, and discipled in the faith as a wee lad by my mother, Mary Edwards, and then later by many gracious and dedicated Sunday school and VBS teachers.  My wife Pamelia Edwards and I have one son, James Edwards; I continue to be richly blessed by them both and for who I am most     thankful.

Pam and I have fellowshipped at SOPC since late 2006. Our first “visit” was at the Grand Opening of our current building; due to the warmth, preaching, and         fellowship we experienced, we decided that we had found our new church family — a church family that strives to reflect the spiritual unity to which we are called as a “ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation”   (Rev. 5:9).

I am a simple country boy at heart, who enjoys a good book, a good movie, some good food, a good video game, and a good nap every now and then.

Kelvin Tarver

I was born and grew up in East Oakland where my mother faithfully took her four boys to church.  Sometime in my mid-to late 20’s I came to embrace the faith as my own.  I worked a little over 20 years in the computer filed before transitioning into ministry.

My wife Arreka and I have been blessed with five wonderful children.  We are so thankful for how, since around 2006, our Soaring Oaks  family has faithfully and generously poured the word of God into the lives of each of the Tarver’s as well as its other members.

We enjoy family dinners followed by a good book reading around the table, and Reeds Ginger Ale.
